Under the Sky

HUMMANA is a Portuguese neo-folk / world music project rooted in the living traditions of Madeira, but shaped for a wider, borderless present. Old songs, circle dances, popular poetry, and ancestral rhythms are reimagined through a modern cinematic language, where folk, atmosphere, voice, and movement become one living body. Sung in Portuguese, HUMMANA carries island memory without turning it into nostalgia. The project treats tradition as a living force: something that can be remembered, transformed, and planted again in the future.
Solarpunk in spirit, HUMMANA looks toward a more rooted and human world — one connected to land, body, community, ecological imagination, and the invisible knowledge carried through music. It moves between past and future, ancestry and reinvention, intimacy and collective pulse.

Inception

A breath held between earth and hum, Hummana unfolds like a weathered dream, woven from fog and forest, grass and sun, ash and fire. It braids forgotten songs, ancestral rhythms, and raw human voices. A meeting place of water and stone, of body and wind, of roots and rituals. This is a message for the part of you that still knows the way home. It is not made to impress, but to invoke. The dance that happens when no one is watching.

HUMMANA has performed at various concerts and festivals, including ‘Orwofest’, “Karneval Der Kulturen” and the “Berlin SommerFest”, where they captivated audiences with their immersive live shows. Their music transcends time, evoking deep emotions and a sense of collective memory that resonates with listeners of all backgrounds.

In 2023, Hummana released their debut album, Tribo, a tribute to the cultural heritage of Madeira. The album is a blend of traditional melodies and original songs, exploring themes of identity, community, and the human connection to the past. Tribo invites listeners on a journey through the sounds of Madeira, where ancient traditions meet the pulse of the present, with hints of Scandinavian influences woven into the fabric of the music.
