Hummana is a Portuguese duo from Madeira Island that brings the traditional music of their homeland into the present. They combine old work songs, circle dances, and poetry with modern sounds, blending the rich folk traditions of Madeira with Scandinavian influences and the Pop Rock language. Sung in Portuguese, Hummana’s music is a mix of past and present, keeping the heart of Madeiran traditions alive while adding new influences. Their performances create a strong connection to the cultural memory and identity of Madeira, reminding us that our roots and memories shape who we are.

Inception

HUMMANA is a tribute to life, femininity, music, memories, human connection and our relationship with Mother Earth. A word that symbolizes growth, nourishment, and the pure essence of being human in tune with the earth.

HUMMANA has performed at various concerts and festivals, including ‘Orwofest’, “Karneval Der Kulturen” and the “Berlin SommerFest”, where they captivated audiences with their immersive live shows. Their music transcends time, evoking deep emotions and a sense of collective memory that resonates with listeners of all backgrounds.

In 2023, Hummana released their debut album, Tribo, a tribute to the cultural heritage of Madeira. The album is a blend of traditional melodies and original songs, exploring themes of identity, community, and the human connection to the past. Tribo invites listeners on a journey through the sounds of Madeira, where ancient traditions meet the pulse of the present, with hints of Scandinavian influences woven into the fabric of the music.
